Pros and cons of Asahi Kanji (English) app for iPhone and iPad

Asahi Kanji (English) app good for

very good app for web site user, but there is no "by level" classment - like level 4 1-40, 41-80... its with this classment that a learn it and I dont relieve this form in the app A french version will be so nice ... for french student
Superior product, I agree with heiangirl. Indispensable for advanced kanji study Both this app and the original site. Kudos to Mr. Meyer, best product Ive seen for kanji in decades.
Exquisitely simple and perfect...all you really need to study Kanji. As good as the PC version. Thank you Roger Meyer! To add a few more comments, this App gives you the ability to study kanji and select the correct English meaning or to study Kanji and select the correct on-yomi or correct kun-yomi. I find selecting an English meaning you can become complacent, so it is very helpful to switch. It also gives you the ability to elminate kanji that are well known (and add back later, if desired) or, by clicking the eye symbol in the upper right, to get details on each kanji.
Im finding this very helpful, not only for drilling new kanji but also for reviewing ones I should already know. The drilling features are fantastic!

Some bad moments

although you can get some kanji apps for free, NONE of them amount to what this does!:) First off, you get to organize kanji several helpful ways like by jouyou, and when you are studying it not only gives you on and kun yomi, but also gives you compounds!:)) If you dont learn compounds there is basically no reason to learn kanji in the first place! while you are studying you can choose the hide the on or kun yomi for example if you are studying the readings, but the format in which you do so isnt confusing at all!:D if that wasnt good enough, you get to quiz yourself over what you learned in multiple ways like readings or meanings!!!:)) afterward you can take the encore section to study what you missed I LOVE THIS APP concensus: dont waste your time trying to find a good free app, just buy this! promise its worth it! go to japanese-kanji. c om and use the handy thing they have there if you want to learn more, its the same thing!:)
A couple of suggestions to make it 5 stars are adding a sound component to the kunyomi and onyomi sections, so that one could click these and hear the pronunciation. Also, the ability to track ones amazing progress with this learning tool by graphing scores or at least compiling them into a table with quiz taken, dates and scores would be great! Thanks for creating this app!
Started using this program online at first and it great. This quizing myself aa been the must useful thing for learn a good group of kanji (50+) at a time . The key to it is repeat repeat over and over thats how you learn kanji. Not to mention it gived you all the readings and info that you need to know for the kanji. Best japnese app worth 3 bucks
This is a very powerful kanji study app. Its easy to set the range of kanji youd like to study, and the level of detail is excellent. It doesnt allow you to create your own practice sets, though, and its bit odd that the app has a section for reports (how well you did on a given test) but doesnt save those reports beyond a day, making it impossible to see how youve done over time or how youre doing with on-yomi vs. kun-yomi. Still, its one of the best kanji study apps for the price.
Great app and worth the purchase. Absolutely one of my favorites! Tracking performance and having example sentences would make this a five star. A sound component would also be an excellent upgrade..... As in hear the word and pick the kanji.
This app does right what so few Kanji apps do: offers a to the point, no-nonsense, non-gimmicky, set of digital flash cards for studying kanji. Do not be fooled by the simple presentation, this app will help you to do the hard work needed to memorize kanji. It will actually save you tons of time because you dont need to make our own flashcard set. The best feature of the app is that you can be quizzed on different elements of the characters separately. So first you can focus on meaning, then after you know their meanings you can do separate quizzes for onyomi and kunyomi. It makes a huge difference being able to work on each aspect of the kanji via different types of quizzes. This will keep you from getting overwhelmed. Is there room for improvement? Sure, but the beauty of this app is its simplicity. Be sure to have a pen and paper with you to practice your writing and you will be set. Good luck to everyone in their Japanese Studies.
